Redemption
who gave Himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for Himself a people that are His very own, eager to do what is good.
Titus 2:14 NIV
Why did Jesus give Himself for us? It wasn't so we can do what we like without fear of consequences. He died to redeem us from all wickedness. God, forbid that we should continue doing evil.
Jesus didn't redeem us from all wickedness only for us to be enslaved to it all over again. Just as He brought Israel out of Egyptian captivity, so He brings His new covenant people out of slavery to sin. May we not become yoked to evil again.
We were saved for a relationship with God. We weren't saved to be left to our own devices. We are to become Christlike.
If we're not eager to do good, we betray the fact we haven't truly been saved from our badness. God doesn't leave us in the mud and the mire. He wants to purify us.
'Gracious God, thank You for saving us to be conformed into the likeness of Your Son. In His name, and for Your glory, amen'
