Pictures

Then he said to me, "Son of man, have you seen what the elders of the house of Israel are doing in the dark, each in his room of pictures? For they say, 'The Lord does not see us, the Lord has forsaken the land.'"
Ezekiel 8:12 ESV

It's like Ezekiel foresaw our own days, thousands of years later, when countless men, and even many women, indulge in the sin of pornography. Porn usage thrives in secrecy, in the dark. It's as though we forget that God is omniscient (all-knowing).

We can't hide from God what we do in the dark, staring at our screens of pixilated pictures. We're probably deceiving ourselves that God's not aware. Maybe we assume He's already given up on us, so we may as well continue in self destructive habits.

We mustn't feed ourselves with lies. We mustn't look at sinful representations of God's gift of sex (which is meant for heterosexual, married, adult, monogamous couples). Neither should we deceive ourselves that God is something He's not.

God does see all that goes on, even things that provoke Him to anger and to punish us. We might think God's already forsaken us, but if we're His people He'll never forsake us, that's why He's so jealous of us when we run after pictures in the dark instead of Him.

'God Almighty, have mercy upon us, we pray. We recognise Your omniscience and unwillingness to forsake us: forbid that we should provoke You to anger. In Jesus' name, amen'
