Hands

But Moses' hands grew weary, so they took a stone and put it under him, and he sat on it, while Aaron and Hur held up his hands, one on one side, and the other on the other side. So his hands were steady until the going down of the sun.

This is a moment of high drama. The Israelites were battling an enemy army. As long as Moses' hands were outstretched, they were winning.

I'm immediately reminded of Someone else whose hands were outstretched to win the victory. He didn't have anyone to hold up His hands however. They were forcibly nailed upon a Roman cross.

Just as Moses' outstretched hands won the victory for Israel that day, so Christ's outstretched hands won the victory for all time for those who trust in Him. Our enemies are satan, sin, death and hell; but they can have no hold on us who are in Christ Jesus. I'm reminded of the Casting Crowns song that God showed us how far the East is from the West that He has cast our sins from us- 'from one scarred hand to the other'.

I picture Moses welcoming Joshua and his army back with outstretched arms from the victory. I picture Jesus welcoming us His people with outstretched arms into His Kingdom. I don't see Jesus with His face in His palms with a frown on His face- He loves and accepts us.

'Almighty Father God, thank You for the victory we have in the death of Your Son on our behalf. Help us to live in His resurrection power, in whose name we pray, amen'
