Grace
even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved—
Ephesians 2:5 ESV

The whole debate between faith and works is well addressed in this passage. We were spiritually dead. We couldn't work to earn our salvation.
Having been made spiritually alive, we are to do the works that God has prepared in advance for us to do. These works don't contribute to our salvation however. They simply evidence that we have been saved.
If salvation was partly down to our works, there would be room for us to boast. As it is, we are saved by grace alone through faith alone, in Christ alone. So Jesus must be our only boast.
Just as Christ rose form the dead, so shall we who trust in Him. In fact, the moment we believe, we come alive spiritually. All praise is due to God's holy name.
'Lord our God, we acknowledge that salvation is all of You and none of us. May we produce fruit in keeping with repentance however, as evidence of Your work in our lives, for Your honour and praise, amen'
