Worship

 Romans 12:1 ESV

I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. 


The meaning of life is to worship God. We don't worship God as the means to the end of having meaningful lives. We do so because he is worthy of our worship.

God is worthy of our worship not simply for creating us. He deserves our praise because he sustains and saves us by his mercies. That is our motivation, not an attempt to earn his acceptance. 

Having been saved, we're not simply to carry on business as usual. Salvation isn't the mantra of praying the sinner's prayer with no change in our lives. We are to offer our bodies as living sacrifices.

How can sinners like us be holy and acceptable to God? Not by offering our bodies as living sacrifices, but by the mercies of God. Having received the mercies of God however, we will offer our bodies as living sacrifices.

'Merciful God, we praise you for your love for us on Christ. May we worshipfully and sacrificially respond, body, soul and spirit. For Jesus' sake we ask this, amen'.

  Therefore, thus says the Lord, the God of hosts, the God of Israel: Behold, I am bringing upon Judah and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem all the disaster that I have pronounced against them, because I have spoken to them and they have not listened, I have called to them and they have not answered. Jeremiah 35:17 ESV In the context, the Rechabites were better at keeping their family traditions than the Jews were at obeying the word of the Lord. God respected the Rechabites nomadic teetotalism. His temper was frayed with His people as a whole however. We don't have to be nomadic. Yet we should remember that this world is not our home, we're just passing through. We shouldn't get too comfortable. We don't have to be teetotal. Yet we must never get drunk on alcohol. We should be sober minded as we consider the eternity to come.   James 1:19 NLT Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters: You must all be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry.   In Christ, we’re all one big spiritual family. We’re all siblings, adopted by our Father God through faith in Jesus. We need to understand how we ought to function as God’s family.   Firstly, we must be quick to listen. A famous quote says that we’ve got twice as many ears as mouths, so we should listen twice as much as we speak!
