Love
1 John 4:19 ESV
We love because he first loved us.
Why do we love? Is love just an evolutionary sleight of hand to enable us to procreate? Not according to the Apostle John, the disciples whom Jesus loved.
We love because God first loved us. God is love, and he created us in his image and likeness, to love and to be loved. When we fail to love, we mar the image and likeness of God within us.
Love isn't just a feeling. Love is willing to die for the beloved. God demonstrates his love towards us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
As God has loved us, so we ought to love others. He calls for daily decisions to put others first, not necessarily the ultimate act of sacrifice. If we love a little, we will love a lot if it comes to it.
'Loving Heavenly Father, please help us to love as you love, and gave your Son for us. For we pray in his name, amen'.
