Possible

 Luke 1:37 ESV

 For nothing will be impossible with God.” 


I'm reminded of the power someone mentioned of the word 'yet'. When someone says they can't do something, if 'yet' is added, it is taken from the realm of the impossible to that of the possible. Of course, ultimately, it is God's will that prevails, not ours.

The Nazarene peasant Mary wasn't naive. She knew that virgins didn't have babies... Yet! She was going to be the exception. The angel Gabriel clarified for her.

Mary wasn't disbelieving, she just wanted to clarify how she was going to have a child. Gabriel explained that she would conceive by the Holy Spirit, a miraculous conception. What seems impossible to us is possible with God.

Why was Jesus born of the virgin Mary? To fulfil God's promises. As sin came into the world through one man, so salvation came into the world through one man, the Son of God.

'Dear God, we're so grateful that nothing is impossible for you. Please help us to trust you for salvation. In Christ's name, amen'.

Light

 he says: “It is too light a thing that you should be my servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob and to bring back the preserved of Israel; I will make you as a light for the nations, that my salvation may reach to the end of the earth.” Isaiah 49:6 As the Lord speaks through Isaiah, his audience shifts from Israel as a whole to his servant, who we will discover is a suffering servant. But this servant has a great calling: to be a light not just to his own people of Israel, but to the whole world. God doesn't want to simply bless one people upon the face of the earth, he wants to bless all peoples of the earth. His means of doing it is through his servant. His servant's first job is to bring back the people of Israel to God, and through them to reach the world. So who is this suffering servant? Isaiah himself served God, and suffered for it. Tattoos

  You shall not make any cuts on your body for the dead or tattoo yourselves: I am the Lord. Leviticus 19:28 ESV https://bible.com/bible/59/lev.19.28.ESV It's becoming increasingly popular to have tattoos of Bible verses. I've never yet seen a tattoo of Leviticus 19:28! Leviticus can be hard to unpick: does it matter if we have tattoos nowadays? Tattoos will have been a symbol of pagan unbelief in God the Creator. If tattoos were an improvement to our skin, God will have given us them in the first place. The proliferation of tattoos even amongst professing Christians today illustrates how ungodly the professing Church is, in my opinion. Clearly, we have to contextualise Leviticus.
