Childlikeness

 Mark 10:14 ESV

But when Jesus saw it, he was indignant and said to them, “Let the children come to me; do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God. 


Jesus got angry at his own followers for excluding children from coming to him for blessing. It's as though they were an overzealous safeguarding team, wanting to protect Jesus from a false accusation. Yet Jesus turned this episode into a spiritual lesson.

We think we have to be big and clever to get into heaven. Jesus teaches that we have to be humble and lowly to get into heaven. It's not about being stupid or naive, but about being credulous of the sure and certain promises of God.

A child with a good dad trusts him to deliver on his promises, to the best of his ability. How much more can we expect God to welcome us into his Kingdom if we come to him for blessing. We should leave our egos and agendas at the door.

Jesus doesn't want us bickering about who the greatest is in the Kingdom. He wants us to humbly sit at his feet out of love for him. We can expect eternity with him if we so desire.

'Heavenly Father, we thank you for your Son and the simplicity it takes to enter his Kingdom. May we do so, for your honour and praise we pray, amen'.

Light

 he says: “It is too light a thing that you should be my servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob and to bring back the preserved of Israel; I will make you as a light for the nations, that my salvation may reach to the end of the earth.” Isaiah 49:6 As the Lord speaks through Isaiah, his audience shifts from Israel as a whole to his servant, who we will discover is a suffering servant. But this servant has a great calling: to be a light not just to his own people of Israel, but to the whole world. God doesn't want to simply bless one people upon the face of the earth, he wants to bless all peoples of the earth. His means of doing it is through his servant. His servant's first job is to bring back the people of Israel to God, and through them to reach the world. So who is this suffering servant? Isaiah himself served God, and suffered for it. Tattoos

  You shall not make any cuts on your body for the dead or tattoo yourselves: I am the Lord. Leviticus 19:28 ESV https://bible.com/bible/59/lev.19.28.ESV It's becoming increasingly popular to have tattoos of Bible verses. I've never yet seen a tattoo of Leviticus 19:28! Leviticus can be hard to unpick: does it matter if we have tattoos nowadays? Tattoos will have been a symbol of pagan unbelief in God the Creator. If tattoos were an improvement to our skin, God will have given us them in the first place. The proliferation of tattoos even amongst professing Christians today illustrates how ungodly the professing Church is, in my opinion. Clearly, we have to contextualise Leviticus. The food laws for example have been abolished by Jesus, when He pronounced all foods to be clean. Yet this verse refers to self harm as well, which we should clearly continue to discourage.
