Awaken!

 Matthew 24:42 ESV

Therefore, stay awake, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming. 


Jesus could return at any time. He won't return until people from every ethnic group have trusted in him. Sometimes people use that as an excuse that he won't return yet, but an angel will announce the gospel to the globe before Christ's return.

If we claim Jesus is our Lord, we mustn't be caught napping. We must always be alert and about his business as his servants. We mustn't be slack.

In the context Jesus seems to be talking about the rapture: talking about one being taken and another left. I wonder however if he's talking about some being taken to judgement whilst the meek stay to inherit the earth. I am of the view that when Christ returns that's it, there's no secret rapture.

If Jesus finds us spiritually slumbering on the day he returns, we betray the fact we are shoddy servants at best, and don't deserve his salvation. If we want assurance we need to stay alert. May he help us to be faithful to him.

'Lord our God, may we live wholeheartedly for you, until you call us home. For your honour, amen'

Light

 he says: “It is too light a thing that you should be my servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob and to bring back the preserved of Israel; I will make you as a light for the nations, that my salvation may reach to the end of the earth.” Isaiah 49:6 As the Lord speaks through Isaiah, his audience shifts from Israel as a whole to his servant, who we will discover is a suffering servant. But this servant has a great calling: to be a light not just to his own people of Israel, but to the whole world. God doesn't want to simply bless one people upon the face of the earth, he wants to bless all peoples of the earth. His means of doing it is through his servant. His servant's first job is to bring back the people of Israel to God, and through them to reach the world. So who is this suffering servant? Isaiah himself served God, and suffered for it. Tattoos

  You shall not make any cuts on your body for the dead or tattoo yourselves: I am the Lord. Leviticus 19:28 ESV https://bible.com/bible/59/lev.19.28.ESV It's becoming increasingly popular to have tattoos of Bible verses. I've never yet seen a tattoo of Leviticus 19:28! Leviticus can be hard to unpick: does it matter if we have tattoos nowadays? Tattoos will have been a symbol of pagan unbelief in God the Creator. If tattoos were an improvement to our skin, God will have given us them in the first place. The proliferation of tattoos even amongst professing Christians today illustrates how ungodly the professing Church is, in my opinion. Clearly, we have to contextualise Leviticus.
