Summary of the Bible in 66 Days: 24 Jeremiah- Trust

 Jeremiah 17:7 ESV

Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose trust is the Lord.

Disney, and society generally in the West, tells us to believe in ourselves. The Bible tells us the opposite. In this very chapter Jeremiah says that the heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked, who can understand it.

Jeremiah would tell us not to follow our hearts, but to trust in the Lord. We shouldn't trust people, who will only let us down, even if it's just on death. Only God will never fail us.

We're cursed if we trust in people. As Psalm 146 says, we're to put no confidence in princes, not for help on men depend. They shall die, to death returning, and their purposes shall end.

Even though Jesus died, God turned such a tragedy into the means of our salvation. We can trust God to bring good out of bad. He will never let us down.

'Almighty Lord, may we trust in you, and so be blessed. Forgive our misplaced trust in people we pray, in Christ's name, amen'.
