Summary of the Bible in 66 Days: 35. Justice: Habakkuk 1:5
Habakkuk 1:5 ESV
Look among the nations, and see; wonder and be astounded. For I am doing a work in your days that you would not believe if told.
This verse is part of a surprising passage. Habakkuk was complaining to God about injustices in his society. This verse ushers in God's response.
Astoundingly, God was going to raise up the even more unjust Babylonians to punish his wayward people. Habakkuk questioned how that was fair. God insisted that the righteous live by faith in him.
The earth will be filled with the knowledge of God as the waters cover the seas. From Iraq to Israel, from Egypt to England, people will know and love the Holy One. He is revealed in the person of his everlasting Son, the Lord Jesus Christ.
Surprisingly, the Apostle Paul applied this verse which applies to Babylonia in its immediate context, to the Good News. No one could make it up but God. He sent his Son to die for our salvation.
'Heavenly Father, please help us to believe the unbelievable, that Christ was crucified to reconcile sinners like us to your holiness. In his name we pray, amen'.
