Summary of the Bible in 66 Days: 34. Judgement: Nahum 1:3
Nahum 1:3 ESV
The Lord is slow to anger and great in power, and the Lord will by no means clear the guilty. His way is in whirlwind and storm, and the clouds are the dust of his feet.
I always think of my grandma with the latter part of this verse. She often used to say, 'look at the clouds, aren't they beautiful, isn't God good?' Nahum points to the clouds as a pale shadow of the greatness of God.
God is powerful. He's sovereign over storms. He's not helplessly wringing his hands when hurricanes sweep lives away.
The Lord is is going to judge us. We're all guilty before the Holy One. Yet we can be justified through faith in Christ crucified on our behalf.
Just because God is slow to anger doesn't mean to say he doesn't get angry. God forbid that we would anger him. We're helpless before the power of his anger outpoured upon us.
'Awesome Lord God, may we submit to your majesty. Please have mercy upon us, in the matchless name of the Lord Jesus Christ, amen'.
