Summary of the Bible: 14. 2 Chronicles- Humility

 2 Chronicles 7:14 ESV

if my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.

This verse isn't about any particular Christianised nation like the U.K. or the U.S.A. In its immediate context, it was about Israel, which means 'prince of God/ 'strives with God'. Spiritual Israel is the new covenant people of God, whether Jewish or Gentile, who trust in the Lord Jesus, the Jewish Messiah, the Saviour of the world.

The new covenant people of God are Christians, named after Christ Jesus our Lord. It's not enough to profess faith in Jesus. We need to humble ourselves, pray, seek his face, and turn from our wicked ways.

If we humble ourselves, pray, seek God's face and turn from our wicked ways, God will respond. He will hear from heaven, forgive our sins and heal our lands. We are to be salt and light to society, we're to add flavour and brightness to those around us.

There's a great promise here. If we do our part, God will do his. Surely our greatest need is for God to outpour his love upon us: to hear our prayers, forgive our evil and heal our lands- may he do so!

'Dear Lord, please humble us, and cause us to turn from our sins to you for healing and forgiveness. For your honour and praise we pray, amen'.
