Rock
The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
Who is God to you? Some fairytale figure? Some old man in the sky? To David, the Lord was everything.
The Lord was a rock of refuge to David. As he hid out among the rocks from murderous king Saul, David knew that God was looking after him. Hiding in caves wasn't David's ultimate refuge: the Lord was.
Time and again God literally delivered David from death. More importantly, he deserved death for adultery and murder, but God spared him and forgave his sins. God can deliver the worst of sinners.
God was David's shield. He wasn't immune from troubles attacking him, but God shielded him from them. The Lord achieved salvation for him and was his strength; God can be such for us too.
'Lord, please prove the truth of this verse in our lives. Thank you for already doing so time and again: may you continue to do so. In Jesus' name, amen'.
