Renewal
Psalm 51:10 ESV
Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.
David was nicknamed 'a man after God's own heart'. Yet even he asked God to create in him a clean heart. If he needed transformation, we certainly do.
We may not have committed adultery and murder like David. Yet surely most of us are guilty of lust and hatred, or greed, covetousness, envy or whatever else. The sacrifice that God accepts us a broken heart over our sinfulness.
Even though David messed up massively, it was the fact he sought God's forgiveness and reconciliation that made him a man after God's own heart. This is a prayer we all should echo. Even if we don't think we need to, that means we ought to pray this all the more.
If we think we don't need to pray this prayer, we're probably proud, arrogant, and self righteous, which are all terrible sins. Having prayed this prayer David was restored to a right relationship with God. Nevertheless, the human consequences of his sins were devastating.
'O God, please create a clean heart in us, and renew a right spirit within us, in Jesus' name, amen'.
