Ready

Luke 12:40 ESV 

 You also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.


No one but God knows when Christ will return. Scoffers question whether he ever will. Yet he works to his own time scale, not ours.

As Jesus said elsewhere, when he returns, will he find faith on the earth? We mustn't lose hope. We must trust in him.

Christ will return like a thief in the night. We need to be ready for that great day. We need to live at peace with him. 

We get to be at peace with God through faith in Jesus's death for us. Having trusted, the evidence of our belief will be a changed life. It's not enough to process faith in him, we have to bear the fruit of the spirit.

'Almighty God, please humble us before your majesty, and may we be ready for the return of Christ, in whose name we pray, amen'.

Power

 But for this purpose I have raised you up, to show you my power, so that my name may be proclaimed in all the earth.Exodus 9:16 ESVhttps://bible.com/bible/59/exo.9.16.ESV  Secular historians point to the lack of extra-biblical evidence of Hebrew slavery in Egypt and ensuing exodus. But here in this verse, God describes how this anonymous Pharoah has been immortalised in the annals of the Hebrews, so that God is proclaimed in all the earth. The mighty men of the world might think they can stand against God and win, but resistance is futile!  The more stubborn Pharoah was, the more the Lord was able to display His power. The more insistent Pharoah was of keeping his slaves, the more unreasonable he appeared. Light

  'Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path. ' Psalms 119:105 https://www.bible.com/bible/116/PSA.119.105 What is God's word to us? A dusty old tome? Irrelevant to our modern age? This verse reveals what it was to king David of Israel. The Bible was to David literally a bible as it were, a definitive guide, to life, the universe, and everything. It isn't just some philosophical work, it's very practical as to how we ought to live. It also shows what to do when we realise we don't live up to God's commandments.
