Obey

 Deuteronomy 7:9 ESV

Know therefore that the Lord your God is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, to a thousand generations, 


We might think this verse sounds legalistic. We have to keep God's commandments? Isn't this just old testament legalism?

Even Jesus said, 'if you love me, keep my commandments'. In summary, God's commandments are to love him and one another. We haven't received God's love if we're not loving.

Our love doesn't earn God's love. Yet if we have received God's love, we will be loving. Our love is evidence of God's love at work in us.

There's an unbroken chain of people from Christ's first advent until now, who have received God's love. When the saints go marching in, will we be in that number? May we cry out to God to save us.

'God, have mercy upon us, and cause us to love and obey you as we ought. Thank you for your love in Christ, in whose name we pray, amen'.

Power

 But for this purpose I have raised you up, to show you my power, so that my name may be proclaimed in all the earth.Exodus 9:16 ESVhttps://bible.com/bible/59/exo.9.16.ESV  Secular historians point to the lack of extra-biblical evidence of Hebrew slavery in Egypt and ensuing exodus. But here in this verse, God describes how this anonymous Pharoah has been immortalised in the annals of the Hebrews, so that God is proclaimed in all the earth. The mighty men of the world might think they can stand against God and win, but resistance is futile!  The more stubborn Pharoah was, the more the Lord was able to display His power. The more insistent Pharoah was of keeping his slaves, the more unreasonable he appeared. Light

  'Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path. ' Psalms 119:105 https://www.bible.com/bible/116/PSA.119.105 What is God's word to us? A dusty old tome? Irrelevant to our modern age? This verse reveals what it was to king David of Israel. The Bible was to David literally a bible as it were, a definitive guide, to life, the universe, and everything. It isn't just some philosophical work, it's very practical as to how we ought to live. It also shows what to do when we realise we don't live up to God's commandments.
