Summary of the Bible in 52 Weeks: 8. Kingdom

And your house and your kingdom shall be made sure forever before me. Your throne shall be established forever.

2 Samuel 7:16 ESV

King David of Israel had wanted to build God a house, a temple, in Jerusalem. God refused, as he was a man of war with blood on his hands. Yet God told David he would build his house to be everlasting.

David himself is dead and buried. Yet the Son of David, the Lord Jesus Christ, his Descendant, broke out of the tomb. He defeated death and reigns forevermore.

Jesus is David's promised Descendant whose Kingdom of heaven is everlasting. We can become part of it by changing our minds about him. He's not just a carpenter, or even a Prophet, or a Teacher: he's the everlasting Son of God.

Christ is now exalted in the highest heaven, sat on the throne of God, where one day we will stand, and kneel to be judged. Only through faith in him can we escape damnation. We can repent of our rebellion and enter in to God's kingdom.

'God Almighty, we worship you for establishing your everlasting kingdom. We rejoice that we can become part of it, and pray that we would, in the name of Jesus, amen'.
