Sacrifice

There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.

John 15:13 (NLT)

The love of the Lord Jesus Christ is the greatest love of all. Not only did he lay down his life for sinners. He is also unashamed to call us friends.

Jesus doesn't judge us at this stage. His first advent was about him descending to earth as our Saviour. When he returns, it will be as judge.

In Jesus, God's love and justice meet. He is able to be just and the justifier of the ungodly by his death on our behalf. He bore God's punishment on our behalf, so he satisfied God's justice.

Often, we tend to overemphasise either God's justice or his love. It's hard to get the balance right. Yet Jesus perfectly personifies both.

'Dear Lord, we're so grateful for your sacrifice on our behalf. Please help us to trust in you. For your glory we pray, amen'.
