I can do all things through him who strengthens me.

Philippians 4:13 (ESV)

The Apostle Paul wasn't suggesting he could defeat all the legions of Rome single handedly. In the context, he was writing about contentment. We might assume we can only be content when the sun is shining, Paul suggests otherwise.

If our contentment is circumstantial, we're going to spend a lot of time discontented. If however our contentment is grounded in God, we can be content even in difficult circumstances.

We shouldn't just need a full belly to be content. We shouldn't even need a roof over our heads. If God is our portion, we should be aware that he is enough.

Living with eternity in mind is a great aid in living contentedly. If we're looking for contentment in stuff in this life, we're only going to become disillusioned. If however we trust in God, he will never disappoint us.

'Abba in heaven, please teach us the secret of contentment, and strengthen us to be content in you whatever our circumstances. In the name of Christ we pray, amen'.
