Strength
O LORD, my strength and my stronghold, my refuge in the day of trouble, to You shall the nations come from the ends of the earth and say, "Our fathers have inherited nothing but lies; worthless things in which there is no profit".
Jeremiah 16:19 ESV
How did the 'weeping prophet' persevere in his mission for God? It was because the Lord strengthened him. God was his stronghold.
We all face troubles in life. If we know God as our refuge, we can overcome the troubles of life. He has triumphed over sin, and death, and hell; and so can we, through faith in Him.
Jeremiah envisaged the days in which we now live. People from every nation are coming to the LORD. Jesus isn't just the Jewish Messiah, but the Saviour of the world.
We need to recognise that much of what our societies value is ultimately worthless. From the emptiness of materialism to the evils of man-made religion, we need to renounce such things. We should worship the LORD as He deserves.
'O LORD, our strength and our stronghold, we praise You for being our refuge. Help us to live wholeheartedly for You and Your glory, now and forevermore, amen'.
