Shelter

He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say to the LORD, “My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”

Psalm 91:1-2 (ESV)

The first verse seems like somewhat of a no brainer. If we dwell in the shelter of the Most High, we would assume that we'd be in the shadow of the Almighty. We shouldn't be blase about such a truth though: it's the best place to be.

If we're not in the shelter of the Most High, we're building our lives on shifting sands. If we don't abide in the shadow of the Almighty, we'll get blazed by the sun of affliction, and buffeted by the storms of life. We need God in our lives.

We shouldn't come to God as a last resort. He should be our first port of call. We shouldn't come to Him for what we can get out of Him, but for His own sake.

The Lord is the refuge and the fortress of those who trust in Him. He'll never let us down. Sinners though we are, we can know Him as our God.

'LORD, You are our refuge and our fortress, our God in whom we trust, and we praise You, now and forevermore, amen'.
