Move!

The LORD our God said to us in Horeb, 'You have stayed long enough at this mountain'.

 Deuteronomy 1:6 ESV

If I remember correctly, Horeb was another name for Sinai, where Moses encountered the Lord and received His law. I'm reminded of the transfiguration of Jesus on the mountain, where Peter wanted to linger. Mountains might be good for views, but valleys are where fruit grows, as Billy Graham famously said.

God doesn't want us to hanker after mountaintop experiences all the time. He wants us to plod on for Him. Often, that will require going through valleys.

We're not to linger at the mountain of law: 'Do this; don't do that'. We're to head to the mountain of Calvary, where God demonstrated His love to us in Christ crucified on our behalf. The Law came through Moses; grace and truth come through Jesus.

We're on pilgrimage to Zion mountain, the New Jerusalem, the heavenly city. There will be valleys to go through along the way. With God's help, we will make it.

'LORD our God, don't let us hanker after mountaintop experiences. May we plod on for You, until You call us home, For Your glory, amen'.
