Fire
If I say, "I will not mention Him, or speak any more in His name", there is in my heart as it were a burning fire, shut up in my bones, and I am weary with holding it in, and I cannot.
Jeremiah 20:9 ESV
If we belong to Jesus, we have a responsibility to make Him known. We mustn't hide our light under a basket. We have good news to share.
We might try and bottle up the gospel, but if we're genuine, we won't be able to. If we think we can be secret believers, we're deceiving ourselves . We mustn't be miserly with the good news.
It seems like Jeremiah tried to keep quiet, but was unable to do so. It would have been easier for him humanly speaking to keep his mouth shut. Then he might not have been persecuted.
We're not to just look for the easy way out. We're to seek to do what's right, no matter what the cost. Jeremiah felt compelled to do the right thing; so should we.
'God, forbid that we would be stingy with the gospel. Help us to proclaim it as we ought. In Christ Jesus' name, amen'.
