Fear
This day I will begin to put the dread and fear of you on the peoples who are under the whole heaven, who shall hear the report of you and shall tremble and be in anguish because of you.
Deuteronomy 2:25 ESV
There was nothing particularly special about God's people. This ragtag bunch of ex-slaves won't have seemed scary. Yet God had miraculously delivered them.
It's almost as though familiarity bred contempt. God's people lacked confidence in Him. He'd brought them through the Red Sea, so they should have trusted in Him.
The God who provided for His people in the wilderness wasn't about to give up on them. They could take the promised land in confidence that He would be with them. He wasn't going to abandon them.
Enemies of the Israelites would be like putty in their hands. They might have looked strong and impressive. Yet they were quaking in their boots.
'LORD our God, please help us to have confidence in You. Thank You that we don't need to fear if You are for us. In Christ's name we pray, amen'.
