Delight

The one thing I ask of the LORD— the thing I seek most— is to live in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, delighting in the LORD’s perfections and meditating in his Temple.

PSALMS 27:4 (NLT)

What do we most seek? Fame, fortune, family? David wanted to spend all of his time in God's presence.

I'm not sure David got to fulfil his dream in this life. After all, he had a nation to run. Yet in eternity, his dream became a reality.

If we don't share David's delight in God, then heaven isn't the place for us. Paradise isn't a playboy mansion in the sky; it's centred around the Holy One and His worship. If we don't want to praise Him, eternity isn't the place for us.

The solution to a lack of delight in the LORD is to cultivate it. The alternative to delighting in the LORD for eternity is eternal torment in hell. It doesn't bear thinking about.

'Dear LORD, please help us to delight in You and in Your salvation all the days of our lives, until You call us home. For the honour of Your name, amen'.
