Love
Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.
1 John 4:11 ESV
The Old Testament commands us to love God wholeheartedly, and to love one another as we love ourselves. The New Testament sets the bar even higher. As Jesus took up His cross for us, so we are to take up our crosses and follow Him.
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, so that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but shall have eternal life. If God gave of Himself for us, we should give of ourselves for Him, and for one another. We shouldn't be selfish.
It's not all about us. We should be preoccupied with God and other people. We shouldn't be preoccupied with ourselves.
It's not just about flamboyant acts of self sacrifice that demonstrates our love. It could be as simple an act as washing people's feet- literally or figuratively! There are countless ways we can demonstrate our love.
'Loving heavenly Father, we praise You for sending Jesus to demonstrate Your love for us in His death on our behalf. May we live lives defined by love. For Your glory, amen'
