Remember

He has caused his wondrous works to be remembered; the Lord is gracious and merciful.
Psalm 111:4 ESV

The scoffer might question how God has caused His wondrous works to be remembered. The Psalmist though will have had in mind Israel's miraculous deliverance out of slavery in Egypt. Every year, at the Passover feast, God's people remember His salvation.

God's wondrous works are remembered to this day. Every time His people take bread and wine in remembrance of Him, we proclaim His death until He returns. The 'bread' of His body was broken for us; and the wine of His blood was shed for us.

At the cross, we see God's grace and mercy most clearly. Mercifully, Jesus bore the punishment we deserve for our sinfulness. We're not treated by God as we deserve.

Graciously, Jesus defeated death so that we, in Him, might do so too. We deserve condemnation, yet we can receive eternal life through trusting in Jesus. All praise to His holy name!

'Gracious and merciful God, help us entrust ourselves to You. May we always remember Your goodness to us in Jesus, in whose name we pray, amen'
