Wait

Wait for the Lord and keep his way, and he will exalt you to inherit the land; you will look on when the wicked are cut off.
Psalm 37:34 ESV

Waiting for the Lord isn't like waiting for the postman: sitting around fidgeting until he arrives. Waiting for the Lord is to be coupled with keeping His way. Jesus is the Way. He's coming back, but in the meantime we follow after Him on His way.

Waiting for the Lord is a pilgrimage: we're waiting to reach our destination, but not from the comfort of our sofas! We're striving to reach journey's end. We seek to be faithful until Christ calls us home.

'Blessed are the meek', Jesus declares, 'for they will inherit the earth'. We don't have a sense of entitlement. We don't delude ourselves that God owes us the new creation.

We will look on when the wicked are cut off. God takes no pleasure in the death of the wicked, and neither should we. Yet there is a sense of satisfaction when justice is served.

'Our Lord and Saviour, please help us to await Your return and to keep Your way. Thank You for the anticipation of the new creation, for Your eternal praise, amen'
