Rejoice!

 Oh, that salvation for Israel would come out of Zion! When God restores the fortunes of his people, let Jacob rejoice, let Israel be glad.

There's a sense in which this verse has already been fulfilled. Salvation for Israel has come through Christ Jesus the Lord. Most Israelites rejected Him, but to all who accepted Him, we have been grafted into spiritual Israel.

God's people aren't an ethnic group or a unique cultural entity. Anyone and everyone who trusts in Jesus for salvation are part of His people. His people are at a low ebb in the UK. Some people want to make 'conversion' illegal. Yet nothing can hinder God from converting those whom He's chosen.

God will restore His people's fortunes, either in revival, or when He calls us home to eternal glory. We can rejoice in our salvation. We are 'Jacob'- deceitful, sinful, worthy of rejection: and yet God loves us anyway.

God transforms us from Jacob to Israel- those who strive with God and who become princes in His Kingdom. God has a wonderful future in store for His people. Any of us can be adopted into His family and welcomed into His Kingdom.

'God, thank You for revealing Your salvation to us in the Lord Jesus Christ. May we receive Him and so look forward to our eternal rest. In His name we pray, amen'

Power

Even just earlier in this chapter, Jesus fed 5,000 men, plus women and children miraculously. But when He started making statements like this verse, He understandably became less popular.
