Hospitality

 “When a stranger sojourns with you in your land, you shall not do him wrong.
Leviticus 19:33 ESV

Note what this verse doesn't say. It doesn't say to detain or deport the stranger. The passage goes on to say to treat the stranger as we treat natives.

We ought to treat everyone the same. We ought to love our neighbours. God forbid that we would treat someone as an inconvenience.

Sadly, the UK is an inhospitable place. 'An Englishman's home is his castle'. Sadly, the drawbridge of the castle is often up!

In ancient Israel, immigrants were expected to abide by God's law. In return however they were treated equally. In the new covenant, Gentiles get to enter into the people of God as equals too. The Jewish Messiah is the Saviour of the world.

'Dear God, thank You for Your hospitality in welcoming us into Your Kingdom through faith in the Lord Jesus. Help us be hospitable too, in Christ's name we pray, amen'

Power

Follow!

 And he said to all, "If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. Luke 9:23 ESV Early on in His ministry, Jesus was really popular. Even just earlier in this chapter, Jesus fed 5,000 men, plus women and children miraculously. But when He started making statements like this verse, He understandably became less popular. Basically, Jesus was asking those who would follow Him to go on 'death row'. Following Jesus in 1st Century Roman Palestine wasn't about pressing a button on social media.
