Devotion

The saying is trustworthy, and I want you to insist on these things, so that those who have believed in God may be careful to devote themselves to good works. These things are excellent and profitable for people.
Titus 3:8 ESV

'The saying' refers to the salvation that comes through faith in Jesus. Having believed and getting saved, we aren't free to indulge our sinful desires. Instead, we are to devote ourselves to good works.

When we get saved, God realigns our values. From selfishness, we become selfless. From lustful, we become purified. From covetousness we learn contentment.

We might assume that good works are miserable, but they make for a fulfilled and satisfied life. There's nothing better than to live according to God's blueprint. As Paul says, to live God's way is 'excellent'.

To commit to good works is profitable for all peoples. It's not just for Jewish people or particularly religious people to dedicate themselves to keeping God's laws. It's good for us all to love God and one another.

'Dear Father God, we're grateful for our salvation. In the light of it, help us to be committed to doing good. In Jesus' name we pray, amen'
