Arise!

 Arise, O God, defend your cause; remember how the foolish scoff at you all the day!

Doesn't it sometimes feel like God is taking a nap on the throne of heaven, while the foolish scoff at Him all day? The Psalmist seemed to feel the same. He wasn't going to let himself get all defeatist about it though.

I love the directness of the Psalmist. He isn't afraid to appeal to God to get off the throne of heaven to intervene in the world. Of course, Christ did exactly that when He came down to earth over 2,000 years ago as our Saviour.

The Psalmist seems to have in mind for God to smite His enemies. That time will come. When Christ returns, He will judge the living and the dead, and evildoers will get their comeuppance.

We're all naturally evil. Thankfully, we can be made righteous through faith in Jesus. May we become right with God through Him!

'Arise Lord, and bring all foolish unbelief to an end. Please vindicate Your holy name, for Your glory and praise we pray, amen'

Power

Even just earlier in this chapter, Jesus fed 5,000 men, plus women and children miraculously. But when He started making statements like this verse, He understandably became less popular.
