Jealousy

"Thus says the Lord of hosts: I am jealous for Zion with great jealousy, and I am jealous for her with great wrath.

We might not naturally associate jealousy with God. We might assume He is impassable and emotionless. Yet Zechariah makes very clear that the Lord is a jealous God.

He's the God of the angel armies. We don't want to get on the wrong side of Him. He's jealous for God's people: if we touch them, we touch the apple of His eye.

Even as God's people, we need to be mindful of the Lord's jealousy. God forbid that we should provoke Him with unfaithfulness. May our lives' focus be to bring Him joy.

God might be slow to anger, but His wrath is great. Woe betide us if we do indeed provoke Him. It would not bode well for us if that was the case!

'Lord God of the angel armies, help us to be mindful of Your jealousy, and to seek to be faithful to You. Don't let us provoke You, in the name of Christ we pray, amen'
