Stillness
He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”
Psalms 46:10 (NIV)
God doesn't call us to run around like headless chickens in the face of the chaos in the world. Neither does He expect us to bury our heads in the sand. Instead, He calls us to be still and to know that He is God.
We can be at peace in the face of conflict and turmoil within and without. God is sovereign. He's in control of this world.
As things stand, God doesn't seem exalted. He seems despised. Yet a day is coming at the return of the Lord Jesus when God will be exalted amongst the nations.
Nations will pass away. Yet the Lord will reign over His Kingdom for all eternity. There will come a time when the earth is filled with the knowledge of the glory of God, as the waters cover the sea.
'God, help us to be still and to know that You are Lord. May we reflect upon Your sovereignty, and let that give us confidence in the face of all the upheaval in the world. In Jesus' powerful name, amen'.
