Divinity

I declared and saved and proclaimed,

when there was no strange god among you;

and you are my witnesses,” declares the Lord, “and I am God.

Isaiah 43:12

God is in the dock. His people are fed up of being bullied by the bigger nations around and feel like God has abandoned them. But in an unprecedented turning of the tables, God calls his own accusers to be witnesses in his favour.

God had declared that Israel was his people, through whom he was going to bless the whole earth. He had saved them from slavery in Egypt and brought them into the promised land. Through countless prophets he proclaimed his love for them.

All the nations knew that the Lord was Israel ' s God, and that he had done mighty things for them, such as none of their gods had ever done. Who but the Lord delivered a people from slavery? They should have been finished! Who else had given a promised land? They were desert nomads!

Israel needed to look into their past to know that even exile in Babylon wouldn't separate them from God's love. As Christians we are exiles and strangers in the world, pilgrims passing through to the promised land. Do we trust that God will keep us, and refuse to look to other gods or idols?

"Lord, you are God, and we worship you for delivering us from slavery to sin. Help us as we journey to glory, to stay faithful to you,:and not to doubt your love for us in Christ. In His name we pray, amen".
