Life

It must have seemed a bit ridiculous for Jesus to claim to be life personified. As far as the casual observer could see, He was simply a carpenter turned teacher. Martha knew Him well though, and knew there was more than meets the eye with Him.

Whatever else Jesus may have been, He is also the eternal Son of God: the One in whom we live, and move, and have our being. He is Life personified, in whom we can enjoy eternity with God. Though we die, because He arose, we will too.

Even before His resurrection, there were glimpses of Christ's divinity. Such occasions didn't come much clearer than His raising of Lazarus from the dead. Jesus is Lord even over death itself.

We all face death, unless Jesus returns first. Yet if we trust in Jesus, death isn't the end. He will awaken us to enjoy eternity with Him in glory.

'Living God, may we find eternal life in You, through faith in Your Son Jesus, in whose name we pray, amen'
