Teach!

You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.

What are we to teach our children? As the Beatles sang 'all you need is love'; but not just romantic love, or even love for our neighbours. We are to love the Lord our God wholeheartedly.

God doesn't want half-hearted, part-time lovers. He wants men and women, boys and girls after His own heart. If we truly love God and know His love, we won't keep it to ourselves. God forbid that we should fail to share His love with subsequent generations!

Note that we're not commanded to leave the teaching of children about God to 'professionals'/church youth workers. If we have responsibility for children, we're not just to care for their material needs. We need to acknowledge how we are responsible for their spiritual welfare.

Teaching our children about God isn't for a set time, or just for Sundays. It should be a spontaneous outpouring of our faith, whatever we're up to from day to day. Last thing at night, first thing in the morning, and all throughout the day, we should take every opportunity to proclaim God's excellencies.

'Majestic God, may we proclaim Your greatness to subsequent generations, and make You rightfully famous in a spiritually clueless world. In Christ's name, amen'
