Neglect

how shall we escape if we neglect such a great salvation? It was declared at first by the Lord, and it was attested to us by those who heard,

Hebrews 2:3 ESV

It's a rhetorical question. We won't escape if we neglect God's salvation of us in Christ crucified. If we do neglect it, we betray the fact we were never truly saved in the first place.

Salvation isn't about praying a mantra: a sinner's prayer. Salvation isn't just about words, but about a change of mind, repentance from sin and faith in Christ. Even our faith is a gift of God, so there's no room for boasting.

Sometimes ignorant people assume the new testament is 'nicer' than the old. They stereotype the old as 'thou shalt nots' or you'll be stoned. They stereotype the new with Jesus as an unassuming hippie.

Jesus isn't a hippie. He's the King of kings and the Lord of lords. Every knee will bow to Him, even of those who neglected His salvation in this life.

'God, forbid that we should neglect Your great salvation in Christ. May we truly repent and believe the good news of Christ crucified and risen victorious for us. In His name, amen'
