Death

It is the same for all, since the same event happens to the righteous and the wicked, to the good and the evil, to the clean and the unclean, to him who sacrifices and him who does not sacrifice. As the good one is, so is the sinner, and he who swears is as he who shuns an oath.

Death is the great equaliser. It doesn't matter who we are, we'll all die, unless Christ returns first. If this life was all there is, we might question the point of being good!

Sometimes, relatively good people die young. Often, relatively evil people live to a ripe old age. Death gets us all in the end though.

It is appointed to mankind once to die, and after that, the judgment. That's when our good and evil are taken into account. Did we repent of our evil and trust in Christ? Or do we arrogantly trust in our own self-righteousness?

If for this life only we have hope, that's pretty pitiful. If we're living our best life now, we're heading for hell. If we have hope in the risen Christ, we have a wonderful eternity to look forward to.

'God Almighty, may we turn from our sins and trust in You before death, or Christ's return, and judgment. Help us to honour You in our lives, for Jesus' sake, amen'
