Rock

'Hope deferred makes the heart sick; but a desire fulfilled is a tree of life'. Hannah perfectly illustrates the truth of that proverb. Whilst she awaited a child, she was sick with sadness.

Once Samuel was born, Hannah's desire for a child was fulfilled. She didn't keep him for herself, but dedicated him to the Lord. This poem illustrates why she would do such a thing.

God is holy; He's set apart from us. In the world of Hannah's day, one might assume that God would favour the woman with a brood of children. Yet it was childless Hannah He had regard for.

God is the only sure and certain rock. 'On Christ the solid rock I stand; all other ground is sinking sand'. He's the only One who will never let us down.

'Lord God, help us to realise Your holiness and faithfulness to us. May we prove them in our lives. For Your honour and glory we pray, amen'

Power

The mighty men of the world might think they can stand against God and win, but resistance is futile!  The more stubborn Pharoah was, the more the Lord was able to display His power. Rejoice!

  yet I will rejoice in the Lord; I will take joy in the God of my salvation. Habakkuk 3:18 ESV https://bible.com/bible/59/hab.3.18.ESV It's one thing to rejoice in God on a full stomach. It's yet another thing to rejoice in God in the midst of famine. Habakkuk's faith wasn't circumstantial. He trusted in the Sovereign Lord even when everything seemed bleak. His country was plagued by injustice. An even more unjust country was going to ravage them. Now, it seems that famine had descended. When the world offers nothing to rejoice in, God does, because He is literally out of this world.
