Salvation

 and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.

I'm grateful to say I had a similar privilege to Timothy, to have godly family who taught us God's word, the Bible. What if you didn't have that privilege? Why not start getting acquainted with it now?

Why should you get acquainted with the Bible? Because it's able to make you wise for salvation. How can a book do that? Because it reveals Christ Jesus, and encourages faith in Him.

Jesus criticised the religious people of His day because they searched the Scriptures, thinking that life is in them. Life is in Christ Himself. The Scriptures simply testify of Him.

Want to get to know God? Want to know how to get forgiven, saved, and reconciled to Him? Get into the word, and let it get into you. Start with John's gospel, which was expressly written to inspire faith in Jesus.

'Dear God, thank You for the priceless treasure of Your word. May we dig deep into it, and there find salvation, through faith in Christ Jesus, in whose name we pray, amen'

Power

Even just earlier in this chapter, Jesus fed 5,000 men, plus women and children miraculously. But when He started making statements like this verse, He understandably became less popular.
