Light
The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness, on them has light shone.

We're naturally in darkness. God is light, and in Him there is no darkness at all. We're incapable of brightening up our lives without the intervention of God.
Thankfully, over 2,000 years ago, God became a Man who gave His life for us. The Light of the world was snuffed out, but He is like one of those 'magic' candles that reignites even when you try and blow it out! Death could not hold Him.
Having had the light of Jesus shone in our hearts, we become the light of the world. He is enthroned in heaven, but His Spirit enables us to reflect His light in this dark world, until He calls us home. Our job is to brighten up this dark world with the light of Jesus.
What dark places to we need to illuminate with the brightness of Jesus? If we're honest, there's probably shadowy parts of our own lives which need illuminating. Yet we can also tell others of the light of Jesus in the hopes that He'll 'switch the light on' in their hearts too.
'Dear Lord, we're grateful that You have come to illuminate our darkness. Please help us to reflect Your light in this dark world. For Your honour and glory we pray, amen'
