Ignorance

then if it was done unintentionally without the knowledge of the congregation, all the congregation shall offer one bull from the herd for a burnt offering, a pleasing aroma to the Lord, with its grain offering and its drink offering, according to the rule, and one male goat for a sin offering.

Ignorance of the law is no excuse. That's true today as it was all the way back then. In terms of God's law, we all have consciences which make us uncomfortable if we don't love Him or one another as we ought.

Even sinning in ignorance requires sacrifice. Clearly, animal sacrifices can't atone for our wrongdoing, but Jesus can. By His crucifixion we can gain atonement with God.

Even if someone never hears the good news of salvation in Jesus, they will still have to give an account of themselves to God. God is just. He knows how people would have responded to the gospel if they had the opportunity.

If Sodom and Gomorrah had been warned by Lot of the judgement to come, they wouldn't be a salty waste to this day. If we as God's people proclaim the gospel of salvation, perhaps Christ will delay His return to destroy and recreate the universe. Until He returns, there's hope for our loved ones.

'God, forbid that we should sin against You, even unintentionally. Thank You that if we do there is atonement in Christ.  In His name we pray, amen'
