Holiness

but as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct,

We love to meditate on the fact that God is love, because it gives sinners like us hope that we can be forgiven. Having been forgiven through faith in Jesus however, we cannot stop there. As Peter says, we must be holy as God is Holy.

The holiness of God might not be as popular as His love, but it is central to who He is. He is set apart from sinners like us. He is glorious in His righteousness, in how different He is to us.

Although God is holy and we are sinners, if we come to faith in Him, we're expected to become holy as He is holy. How can we do that, sinners as we are? By the work of His Holy Spirit in our lives.

Just as Jesus could sinlessly endure hardship, so can we, through faith in Him. We might have to endure many trials as God's people. Yet we rejoice in the guarantee of our salvation in Christ.

'Father God, we thank You for our salvation. Don't let us get complacent, but may we be holy as You are holy. In Christ's name, amen'
