Distinct

 You shall not do as they do in the land of Egypt, where you lived, and you shall not do as they do in the land of Canaan, to which I am bringing you. You shall not walk in their statutes.

The children of Israel were to live distinctively. God's new covenant people are too. We're not to live like the rest of the world. In the West nowadays, like much of the rest of the world, the idea that people can change their minds and convert to Christianity from things like homosexuality and transgenderism, Islam and Hinduism, are challenged.

Surely it's common sense that it's possible and should be allowed for someone to change their mind. Sadly, the core of the Christian message: the idea that we need to change our minds from sin to the Saviour, is challenged by unbelievers. Those of us who believe in God need to stand up for the truth as He's revealed it to us.

There were all kinds of false religions and practices in Egypt and Canaan. We don't need to concern ourselves too much with the paganism, the sensuality, and the slaughter of innocents that defined such cultures. What matters is that we live how God wants us to, even though it means sticking our heads above the parapets.

To live for God means to live lives defined by love. We're to love Him wholeheartedly, and one another as we love ourselves. Sadly, this will set us apart from the majority whose lives are defined by selfishness.

'Almighty God, may we live distinctively for You. May we honour You in our lives, for Your honour, amen'

Power

Even just earlier in this chapter, Jesus fed 5,000 men, plus women and children miraculously. But when He started making statements like this verse, He understandably became less popular.
