Delight

As an apple tree among the trees of the forest, so is my beloved among the young men. With great delight I sat in his shadow, and his fruit was sweet to my taste.

Song of Solomon 2:3 ESV

Do you ever feel like you can't see the wood for the trees? Do you ever wonder what the Bible is all about. Jesus claimed it was all about Him.

Take this verse for example. On the face of it, it's a lovely piece of romantic poetry, a beautiful metaphor for the love between a woman and a man. If we're to look at the big picture of Scripture as a whole however, we consider what it tells us about Christ.

Scripturally, Christ is the heavenly Bridegroom who seeks out His bride, the Church, from this world. Yet we the church aren't simply passive participants in this divine romance. As we traverse this life, we might often feel like we can't see the wood for the trees, but then we come across Jesus.

Jesus is like an apple tree in a forest. He might not be the strongest. He might not have a worldly empire to His name. He might not be the most handsome, the most beautiful. He is however the most refreshing spiritually. To a hungry traveller, an apple tree is a delight; to the hungry soul, Christ is our delight.

'Dear Father God, may we delight in Your delightful Son, and find in Him our everything. In His name we pray, amen"
