Appointment

 So also Christ did not exalt himself to be made a high priest, but was appointed by him who said to him, “You are my Son, today I have begotten you”;

Jesus wasn't into self promotion. He didn't appoint Himself as our great high priest. Father God committed Him to such a role.

Because Jesus is fully God and fully man, He's perfectly placed to reconcile God and mankind. He's God's eternal Son, begotten but not created.

Christ intercedes on our behalf to Father God. He also represents God to us. If we want to approach the Holy One, we do so through Jesus.

Because Jesus is a man, He can empathise with us in our battles against sin. Because Jesus is God, He has the authority to forgive us. Because He bore God's penalty for sin on the cross, we can be forgiven.

'Our Lord and Father, we praise You for sending Jesus for our salvation. In His Holy name we pray, amen'

Power

Even just earlier in this chapter, Jesus fed 5,000 men, plus women and children miraculously. But when He started making statements like this verse, He understandably became less popular. Basically, Jesus was asking those who would follow Him to go on 'death row'. Following Jesus in 1st Century Roman Palestine wasn't about pressing a button on social media.
