Presence

 And I will walk among you and will be your God, and you shall be my people.
Leviticus 26:12 ESV

This old testament promise is conditional upon obedience. Yet Jesus came down to earth 2,000 years ago, despite our disobedience. He is our God, and we who trust in Him are His people.

Because Jesus walked amongst us and is our God, we are empowered to obey Him. Because He gave His life for us and rose again victorious, we have hope. We can live for Him and rise again too.

Jesus has left His Spirit to empower us to live for Him. He hasn't left us as orphans. He'll return to call us home.

To be the people of God isn't just about claiming to be Christian on a census form. It's about living it out more than just professing it. We need to walk the walk, not just to talk the talk.

'Lord our God, thank You for this powerful promise. We're grateful that in Christ all Your promises are 'yes and amen'- by His obedience we're accepted by You. In His name we pray, amen'

Power

 And he said to all, "If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. Luke 9:23 ESV Early on in His ministry, Jesus was really popular. Even just earlier in this chapter, Jesus fed 5,000 men, plus women and children miraculously. But when He started making statements like this verse, He understandably became less popular. Basically, Jesus was asking those who would follow Him to go on 'death row'. Following Jesus in 1st Century Roman Palestine wasn't about pressing a button on social media.
