Majesty

For we did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty.

Christianity isn't a set of fairy tales. Neither is it just a philosophy, a series of more sayings. As the name suggests, it is centred upon the Lord Jesus Christ, the central figure in human history.

Peter himself was an eyewitness of His majesty. Though on the face of it, Jesus was simply a carpenter turned rabbi/teacher, Peter got a glimpse of His glory.

On 'the mount of transfiguration', Jesus was transformed from an ordinary looking man into His heavenly, bright likeness. Peter, along with James and John, was privileged to witness the majesty of King Jesus.

Although Peter at one stage denied knowing Christ, He was restored by the resurrected Jesus to be an Apostle, or messenger sent to make Him known to the world. Peter was an Apostle with a capital A, because he was an eyewitness of Christ's majesty. Yet there's a sense in which all God's people are apostles with small a's, because Christ sends all His people to go and make Him known.

'Heavenly Lord, we respond to Your commissioning of us to go and make You known. Please help us effectively proclaim the good news, and may many come to faith through our witness, for Your glory, amen'
